The mosque built by Mohammed Ali (not the boxer!) in the Citadel |
Day 13 - Cairo
We had a city tour today, seeing Cairo's tourist highlights - the Cairo Museum, the Citadel of Saladin,
Mosque of Mohamed Ali, the Hanging Church and the famous Kahn El Khalili bazaar/market.

|
Jan and Marelize listen intently to Sam explain the basics of Islam |

Inside the Mosque |

|
The ceiling was very ornate |

|
The view of smoggy Cairo from the Citadel |

|
Once you got away from the tourist part of the market, it really came alive with local life |

|
This was really the first time I had seen women to any extent - here they were out in force shopping |

|
It was just so busy and virtually impossible to stop anywhere to take photos |

|
This man was shining shoes |
The tour ended for Tanya and me at about 5am on Saturday 7 January, Day
14, when we got ready for our airport transfer. It was a fantastic holiday with just the right mix of culture, socialising,
fun and relaxing.

I'm not sure I would have eaten this pita bread having seen how it was transported! |

Some shiny sheesha pipes for sale |
